SGS in Sweden has its largest operations within environmental and food analysis. In the Nordic countries and the Baltic region, the company has about 950 full-time employees. The operations include laboratories, environmental consultants, and inspectors. The majority of the staff functions are located in Linköping, where about 250 people work, mainly in laboratory operations.

The Industrial & Environmental business area is the largest business area within SGS in the Nordic region and includes laboratory analyses of water, soil, earth, construction, and demolition materials, as well as related services linked to industry, infrastructure, and the environment. The business area comprises around 340 full-time positions in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland.

SGS is now recruiting a Business Area Manager for the laboratory operations within the Environmental sector – a key role with a significant mandate, clear business responsibility, and substantial impact on the continued development of the business.

Responsibilities and Duties

As Business Area Manager, you will have full business responsibility for the Environmental business area. The mission is to drive growth and profitability over time, ensure stable and competitive production, and develop the business area strategically in line with SGS's overall goals.

You will lead an organization with approximately 12 direct reports, most of whom are laboratory managers with their own P&L responsibility, while others are responsible for sales, customer service, and development. The role is clearly business and results-driven, with a significant mandate and high demands for growth, delivery precision, quality, and long-term value creation.

Examples of responsibilities:

Full P&L responsibility for the business area
Leadership and development of the business area's management team
Monitoring of results, cost structure, and investments
Strategic customer relationships and major deals
Support and development of laboratory managers and functional managers
Drive improvement and change initiatives, including major system and production projects
Participation in processes and integration of acquisitions
Active participation in the Nordic/Baltic management team and collaboration with corporate functions

The role includes both tactical-operational leadership and strategic development work. Travel within the Nordic region occurs, usually a couple of times a month.

Your Profile

We are looking for an experienced business leader with clear ownership and proven ability to drive an operation with high operational complexity. You are analytical, financially knowledgeable, and accustomed to leading through other managers.

To be considered for the role, the following is required:

Academic degree in a relevant field
Documented P&L responsibility with good results over time
Experience leading other managers and working in a management team
Experience in operations with high operational complexity (e.g., production, operations, laboratory work, service production, or high volume)
Very good financial understanding (budget, forecasting, investments, cost structure)
Fluent in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
